Something completely abstract – and, I thought, very cinematic. Two people walking along the beach on the edge of the ocean. Imsouane. A place that, in a way, splits the ocean in two. Where this lovely couple is walking and chatting about everyday stuff, just a few hours earlier there was nothing but salt water and a handful of surfers eagerly chasing the biggest waves. The light is pretty much unedited. I used to laugh at how, whenever Netflix makes a documentary about places like Mexico or Morocco, the white balance gets pushed way into the warm tones. Being there, I found out it's actually real. And I'll admit, timing was everything here. A lot of things just clicked. I was waiting for a table at a restaurant, listening to a local band playing Imsouane's take on surf rock – and that's when I decided to catch this sweet little conversation.
Imsouane, Morocco.
